Frequently Asked Questions

Will under 18s be allowed to attend?

Due to the 24 hour nature of the event, we're unable to accept entrants under 18. If you're fortunate enough to be blessed with youthful looks, do make sure you bring ID with you!

That's a shame :-( Will you be doing any under 18 events?

We sure will! Keep an eye on our twitter account @hackmanchester for announcements. We need mentors and volunteers too, so please get in touch with us if you want to get involved!

How will you be ensuring that all work is original?

GitHub have been generous and given us private repositories for all the teams so we'll see the commits as they come in.

What's a Git?

Git (and Github) is a really good way to version and share your code. There will be a quick tutorial on the day for anyone who needs an introduction and if you have any questions at all, feel free to ping us on Twitter. In the meantime, please check out:

Will there definitely be an Internet connection available?

Yes! A very fast JANET link supplied by MOSI. Instructions for joining the wifi will be posted on the day.

Are there any rules?

Yes. These will be published soon. But essentially have fun, be considerate, no soldering irons!

Is there a maximum team size?

Yes. Teams of up to 4.

Can we have team names/will the other teams have team names?

We actively encourage team names!

When / how does a team 'register' themselves for the event or is it just a case of turning up on the day?

We're preparing a special teams section that you'll be able to log into after you get your ticket. Stay tuned for more details!

Do projects have to be completely original on that day?

Yes they do. Turn up with an idea. 24 hours later you have something to show.

Can we develop anything we want?

Yes! Absolutely anything, as long as it doesn't involve soldering.

Are there prizes?

There most certainly will be! We'll have more information on these nearer the day.

Is the idea that people stay there from 9am to 9am the next day for example?

Yes - it will be from around 3pm Saturday until 11pm Sunday. There are presentations, award ceremonies, food, drinks and fun throughout. Coding is 5pm to 5pm.

My question isn't answered here. How do I ask one??

Simple! Give us a shout on twitter on the @hackmanchester account or you can email us at enquiries [at] hackmanchester [dot] com.
